Snow Angel, Sand Angel

Written by Lois-Ann Yamanka, Illustrated by Ashley Lukashevsky

Snow Angel, Sand Angel is a book about a girl named Claire who lives in Hawaii. She is given the assignment in school to do a project on winter. She is sad that she has never seen snow, so her father takes her to the highest mountain after a storm so that she can see snow. It turns out that it is not what she always imagined it to be. She still dreams of one day waking up to see snow and make snow angels. Later her family travels to the beach and makes a sand angel and sandman. She learns that so much beauty already existed around her and to appreciate the beautiful land that she lived in and to be content.

I am excited to share this book with my elementary school library. I think children need to see themselves in books and through artwork. This book fills that niche for our kids here from the Polynesian islands.
