Fergus and Zeke and the 100th Day of School

Written by Kate Messner, Illustrated by Heather Ross

Reading through this book, I kept thinking it would be a great read aloud in a 1st or 2nd grade class before their 100th day celebrations. It is a cute story of 2 class pets, Fergus and Zeke, as they try to find a way to celebrate 100 along with Miss Maxwell’s students. It’s a short chapter book, so it is a good one for kids who are ready to move into chapter books from picture books.
The idea for the 100 word stories could lead to a great writing activity for students that could be a lot of fun. And the final project that the mice finish is fun. I think this book will be great in our library for certain kids to check out and also for teachers to use as a resource. It will also be a great read aloud here in the library.
