The First Woman Cherokee Chief: Wilma Pearl Mankiller

Written by Patricia Morris Buckley, Illustrated by Aphelandra

While, historically, men were the only ones to lead the Cherokee tribe, Wilma Pearl Mankiller (who goes by Pearl) defied the odds by working hard to support her people, her culture, and her rights. Because of her dedicated efforts, Pearl was able to help others fight for the rights for the Cherokee people. Quite a cool read and great for beginning readers.
