A Song Called Home

Written by Sara Zarr

Lou’s life is changing. She is moving in with her mom’s boyfriend and changing schools. She is learning guitar and discovering who she is.

Although many topics in this book are “heavy,” Sara Zarr writes beautifully from a middle-grade perspective, so I would have no trouble recommending this to young readers. I think this book will resonate with readers who may have an alcoholic parent, have had to change schools, or adjust to life with a step-parent.

I loved Lou’s voice because you just felt like she was honest and shared her true feelings.
