My Story of Becoming the First African American Rockette

Written by Jennifer Jones and Lissette Norman, Illustrated by Robert Paul, Jr.

This is a picture book biography full of heart. It is the story of the first African American Rockette, Jennifer Jones. As a child, Jennifer loved to dance. Being biracial she experienced prejudices because of her skin color. With the support of her parents she overcame what others said and pursued what she loved most. At the early age of nineteen she auditioned for the Radio City Rockettes and made history doing so. This book would be an inspiring read, especially for children who are interested in dance and how to overcome prejudice to fulfill your dreams.
