This is a great book for students who like dragons. There is a field guide at the beginning of the book, illustrating the different dragons mentioned in the book with each of their unique characteristics. Themes explored include difficult family situations, friendships, good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, and teamwork. Most of the characters are strong willed and competitive because the story deals with a very dangerous race. It was nice to see growth and change in some of the characters–they were able to put aside pride and expand their perspective and judgments of others and situations. It was an enjoyable read.
