Determined Dreamer: The Story of Marie Curie

Written by Deborah Hopkinson, Illustrated by Jen Hill

This is a great book about a great lady! This nonfiction picture book tells the story of Marie Curie and her remarkable determination to be a scientist and learn and discover. She not only was the first woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but she went on to win two Nobel prizes. After her husband died, she went on to work in World War I and international organizations. She said, “Whatever happens, even if one should become like a body without a soul, still one must always work.” What a remarkable woman! The book has a higher word count, so I’d recommend it for grades 1-5.
