Kwame Alexander is a master at lyrical stories and this picture book by Alexander and Melissa Sweet is a feast for the eyes and ears. How To Write a Poem explains just that: write a poem that comes from your heart and a passion for something you love. The books uses many metaphors and similes to describe the process that authors go through to write a story and encourages readers and writers to do the same. The collage-like illustrations by Sweet include actual pages from books and make the story come alive. I loved the illustrations! This would be a fun book to use for poetry week with students.
