The Brinkley Yearbooks Series, #3
Written and Illustrated by Sarah Sax
This book is a graphic novel about a 13yr old boy named Milo. He has a close knit group of friends and a loving family who help him overcome his “curse.” Milo, like many young adults, feels self conscious when he dances. This makes him extra nervous about an upcoming school dance. I really loved how Milo’s friends and family help him build confidence in himself. I especially enjoyed the relationship Milo has with his abuela, and I think the storyline is one that many kids can relate to.
I would definitely recommend this book for other school libraries. Even though it is about a middle school boy, I think it works well for elementary libraries as well. My daughter is a third grader, and she read and really enjoyed this book in one sitting.
