The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla
Written by Katherine Applegate, Illustrated by G. Brian Karas
Ivan the gorilla, captured in Africa as an infant by poachers, lived alone in a shopping mall in Washington for almost 30 years before he was rescued by children and adults who thought he deserved a better life and he was relocated to a gorilla habitat at Zoo Atlanta. This true story, brought to life in Katherine Applegate’s Newbery winner The One and Only Ivan, is now told, again by Ms. Applegate, in this lovely picture book. Now young readers can enjoy this heart-felt story that has been a favorite of many children and adults for years. There are also facts and actual photographs in the back as well as a picture of a finger-painting done by Ivan.
