Written by Ali Stroker, Illustrated by Gillian Reid
This semi-autobiographical picture book was written by Ali Stoker, a Tony Award-winning actress, and the first actor in a wheelchair to appear on Broadway. The story follows young Ali, who dreams of being a star. She and her friends decide to put on a play on the beach, assigning parts and practicing their roles. A big rain storm destroys their set and threatens to ruin the day, but with a happy attitude Ali is able to see past the damage and disappointment and the show goes on wonderfully.
I really appreciate that the main character Ali is in a wheelchair, though it is never mentioned in the story and it plays no role whatsoever in the book. She is just a girl who loves to sing and dance and perform. Inspiring and sweet.
