Written by Nicholas Hummingbird with Julia Wasson, Illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight
This is a gentle but powerful book about listening to the Earth, cherishing her resources, and nurturing plants for the future. Indigenous plant expert Nicholas Hummingbird tells the story of his great-grandparents teaching him to notice and love all living.
I like how this book reminds us that plants are living beings. We can refer to them as “who” not “what,” and beings, not things. This lyrical and beautifully illustrated book will give young readers a way to build a connection with nature. It also has more ideas and activities in the back matter.
