Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas

Written by Jeanne Walker Harvey, Illustrated by Loveis Wise

This is the story of Alma Thomas, who was the first Black Woman to have their art picked by the President (Barack Obama) and displayed in the White House. Having grown up in the south, Alma and her family were used to environments filled with racism and segregation. Though she was not allowed to go to school, she did attend college and studied art. Through her adult life, she worked to create more opportunities for creative engagement for Black children around Washington D.C. She was one incredible lady! The book is delightful and is very eye-catching!
