The Mouse Who Carried a House On His Back

Written by Jonathan Stutzman, Illustrated by Isabelle Arsenault

I absolutely adore this book! The story is easy to read out loud, which is important, not too wordy or long. It’s a simple tale of a sweet mouse whose little home grows larger with each new friend who needs to take shelter there, from a tired bullfrog up to a big, cold bear. Great imagery, like Vincent’s dinner invitation: “I’m serving fresh honeycomb and warm milk,” and, “As the number of guests grew, so did Vincent’s house.”

The illustrations are incredible; bright and colorful like a spring bouquet, with peekaboo page cut-outs in the shape of his house and even a large spread that folds open to show how the house has grown. I loved everything about this sweet story!
