When Clouds Touch Us

Written by Thanhha Lai

Ha is a girl from a family of refugees. She has escaped from the Vietnam War along with her mother and brother. She had a rough time adjusting to the United States, first in Alabama and then Texas. It was even harder with her father dead and her brother moving on in life and with the few things they had, which includes money. Her whole family had to work. Everyone was doing something to try and help. Ha is always reminded that she wasn’t American. She worries about forgetting her Vietnamese life. Plus, as her brother moves on, leaving her mother and her alone, Ha makes new friends and wishes for a place they can call home.

I personally loved this book. This is what it would be like to start over. So many situations where it’s just family, friendship, and life. It does have a lack of humor, but this is life. We move on and others move on.
